Thank you to all those who completed the AAAM-IMLS National Museum Survey. During the next few months we will be conducting an analysis of the information you provided, and developing a final report that will be available later this summer. Congratulations to the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History in Augusta, Gerogia! They are the lucky winner of the drawing for the CIVA: Cultural Institution Vulnerability Assessment disaster preparedness software (valued at $499). If you have questions about your completed survey, contact the research team at People, Places & Design Research: Brian Werner / Kara Leistyna / Jeff Hayward (413) 586-9003 www.ppdresearch.com (See below for more information.) There are over 500 African American museums and cultural institutions across the United States. The keepers of our culture hold a sacred place in our community that is critical, yet often overlooked and underappreciated. AAAM is calling all AAAM members and institutions across the country to stand up and be counted to insure that the dedication, pride and history of our people does not go unnoticed. Remember, there is no cost or solicitation associated with this historical survey project, but each participating organization (both members and non-members) will receive a free copy of the national directory of African American organizations once it is published in 2008 (value $399). Organizations will find the directory useful in self-assessment, collaboration with other African American institutions, fund-raising, grant proposals and other institutional comparisons. To succeed in creating this comprehensive resource, AAAM is relying on the willingness of our members and others within the African American history, arts and culture community to proactively support and promote this survey initiative. Thank you for your help in this national effort to promote African American cultural institutions. |
