Conference Session Policies & Program Formats

AAAM conference presenters/panelists do not receive a fee or travel reimbursement for their participation in AAAM annual conferences. Please be certain that every presenter recruited understands our policy. Presenters/panelists who attend ONLY their session will receive a one-day complimentary registration for the DAY OF THEIR PRESENTATION. If they wish to attend other events or the rest of the conference they will need to register accordingly.

All program sessions must be chaired or moderated by AAAM members.

A Program Committee "shepherd" will be your liaison and contact person. S/he will contact you for further information necessary for room set-up, preparation of text for inclusion in the preliminary and final programs, speaker information and specific audiovisual needs.

AAAM does not offer reimbursement for supplies, copies or materials of any kind.

Section Criteria for Proposals:
Of Primary Importance:
  • Relevance to the museum and education profession, the workshop theme, and the proposed topic category
  • Originality and creativity of the topic, technique or research
  • Clarity of idea, content and presentation method(s)

  • Experience and/or expertise of presenter(s)

Session Program Formats:

Hands-on - audience are presented with a case to discuss, sometimes divided into small groups to resolve problem or issue. End with a discussion of the process.

Panels - are a popular format; yet please ensure that your audience will have time for questions and comments following panelists' brief presentations.

Plenary Session - Find a "true expert" everyone wants to hear and allow time for audience questions, comments and discussion.

Poster Session - provides an opportunity for the presenter to speak one-on-one with conference participants in an informal setting and an effective way to present materials and ideas that do not lend themselves to a large group setting.

Roundtable Discussion - Recruit experienced and insightful people to begin the discussion and then open the floor.
