Exhibit Organizer: Tubman African American Museum
Description: There is power in music. With just a few notes, music can excite powerful emotions within us, affecting our moods, our physical selves, and our perceptions of the world in which we live. There is also power in images. A photograph can instantly transport us to places far from our familiar worlds, and connect us to people different from those we know. The power of photography can be realized in the communication between the photographer and the viewer; as the two combine their imaginations to tell the story of the image. IN CONCERT is a traveling exhibit that unites these two potent art forms - music and photography. The exhibition consists of 62 full color images taken at live concert performances by popular musical artists such as Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones, Beyonce Knowles, Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana and many others. IN CONCERT is also a showcase for the artistry of Atlanta-based photographer Annette Brown, who is an expert in the difficult and highly specialized art of concert photography. Brown's images take the viewer on stage to experience some of the most exciting musical performances of the last decade. The exhibition also includes a hardcover book of the same title.
