March 2007

The History Channel is proud to announce the 2007-2008 Save Our History Grant Program. This is a banner year for the Save Our History national initiative. When grant recipients are announced in July 2007, The History Channel will have awarded $1,000,000 in grants to historical organizations across the country. The goal of Save Our History is to provide the impetus for collaboration between history organizations and schools to help ignite pride and a preservation ethic in our nation's communities. Over the past three years, 82 organizations large and small, urban, suburban and rural, in the north, south, east, west and central United States have used Save Our History grants to fund a wide variety of unique, student-driven community preservation projects.

Inspire the youth in your community to become the preservationists of tomorrow. Museums, historic sites, historical societies, preservation organizations, libraries, and archives are invited to partner with a local school or youth group and apply for funding to help preserve the history of their communities.

Each year, The History Channel awards $250,000 in grants of up to $10,000 to organizations that partner with schools or youth groups on community preservation projects that engage students in learning about, documenting and preserving the history of their communities.

The online application, criteria, and guidelines are available at www.saveourhistory.com. The deadline for applications for the 2007-2008 Grant Program is June 1, 2007.

Questions about grant guidelines and applications will be accepted via e-mail. Please address your questions to saveourhistory@rockpa.org.

In addition to grant application inquiries via email and phone, a national conference calls will be offered in Spring 2007 for the added benefit of grantseekers to further inquire about the Save Our History Grant Program on the following dates:

Wednesday, May 9th
Representatives from The History Channel, the American Association for State and Local History, and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors will be available to address any questions, comments and/or concerns your organization may have regarding the program.
